The Four Hour Work Week

Author Tim Ferriss, he of the The 4-Hour Workweek, also writes a blog at www.fourhourworkweek.com. Ferris, who some might say is a true Groovy Man, (and we do,) is full of helpful  and useful information. From the how to travel really light to how to build an upside-down fire. Also, you never know when he’ll weigh in on topics such as food labeling, or how to learn any language in three months.

Ferriss has carved out for himself a unique lifestyle. In addition to being the best selling author he’s a champion in such diverse pursuits as martial arts and the tango. Indeed, his blog is subtitled “Experiments in Lifestyle Design.” All the stuff he tries may not be for all of us (like those with families) but, should that urge to chuck it all and hit the adventure road ever strike, Ferriss provides an interesting map.

Jet-Lag. And a Place to Love It.

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

havana If you have a lay-over in Tokyo, do as the pilots do and visit the Jet Lag Bar in the town of Narita. Its non-smoking (a first for Japan) and stocks a killer wall of destination travel posters from the 50s and 60s which was the heyday of the genre’. This little place could change soon, so take your camera and snap some pictures. Ask for directions as I can’t seem to find any. Talk about arcane.

Everything Everywhere

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

What’s better than going to a cool spot for vacation? Going to every cool spot. Web entrepreneur Gary Arndt sold his house, put his possessions in storage, and took off. So far, he’s been to over forty countries. He’s posting a daily photo and blog entry about his travels at everything-everywhere.com.

Follow him on Twitter, or via iTunes, Feed Burner, or email.

Not as good as going yourself, but that’s next year, right? Anyone know a good real estate agent?

Tactical Pants

Monday, October 13th, 2008

The 5.11 “tactical pants” are made for police and military but are also the perfect traveling pants. Tougher than the usual cargo pants, they come with reinforced knees, seams, and pockets. They also have wide belt loops, elasticized waist band, and a double seat.

They’re meant to wear, and they do. As for traveling, you can forget the little man purse because everything you need while tromping around on a day hike in the mountains or the big city will fit into the ample velcro closure pockets. They come in cotton or nylon canvas and in eleven different colors.
